What is Bona R540 Moisture Barrier?
Bona R540 is a 1-component polyurethane resin moisture barrier and primer and designed for use on absorbent and non-absorbent sub-floors. Bona R540 can be used on floors with up to 95% moisture content in conjunction with Bona R848 & R820 silane adhesives.
Using a moisture barrier from the Bona system gives you peace of mind and ensures long term reliability.

- 1 or 2 coat application – depending on the moisture content of the substrate
Where can Bona R540 be used?
- Suitable substrates (also in association with underfloor heating) are:
- Cementitious screed
- Concrete
- Floors levelled with levelling compounds (at least 2 mm thick),
- Particle board (yellow tongue, etc.) / plywood / etc. (as primer only)
- The substrate must be even, dry to the touch, clean, free from cracks, and physically sound. The surface should also be slightly textured.
Technical Specifications
- Pack size: 6kg
- Coverage is 25 - 35 m2 depending upon the type of flooring and installation method
- Density: 1.14 g /cm³
- Overcoating: After approx. 3 - 4 hours a 2nd application may be made if required
- Drying time: 24 hours; at this time timber may be installed using Bona R848T / R820 (At 20° C / 60% RH; High humidity and/or low temperatures will extend drying times)
- Application tools: 6 mm nap roller or brush
- Application rate: Primer - approx. 100 - 150 g/m² (10 – 6.5 m² / kg) Moisture barrier - approx. 250 - 350 g/m² (4 – 2.75 m² / kg) NB. The coverage noted is per application and is dependent upon the porosity and physical condition of the substrate
- Shelf life: Tub - 12 months in unopened original container
