Flooring Preparation
PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION OF NEW FLOORING
Proper preparation of the existing floor is essential for ensuring flawless installation of your flooring. Whether you’re replacing old flooring or installing new flooring in a bare space, understanding what floor prep entails is crucial for achieving optimal results.
Most homes need some form of floor preparation, from simply cleaning the area of debris to extensive grinding and levelling. Carpet installations generally require the least amount of floor prep. Whatever the requirements our team can help.
STEP ONE
Clear out the area where the new flooring will be installed. This means removing all furniture and any other items from these areas. Clearing out the space not only makes it easier for the installers to work, but also prevents any damage to your belongings during the installation process. If you need help moving large items we can provide a quote for moving furniture.
STEP TWO
Our team removes the existing floor coverings. This process varies depending on the type of flooring being removed, such as carpet, glued-down flooring, floating floors, or tile. Removal typically involves detaching the flooring material, scraping off any adhesive or residue, and ensuring a clean, debris-free surface. Testing of moisture levels in concrete slabs can be done at this stage to ensure the appropriate steps are taken for the specific type of flooring to be installed.
STEP THREE
Sub-floor repair and levelling: If the subfloor exhibits damage or unevenness, repairs may be necessary to create a stable base for the new flooring. This may involve replacing damaged sections, sanding or grinding of subfloor, or applying self-levelling compounds to ensure a smooth and level surface.
STEP FOUR
Surface Preparation: Before installing certain types of flooring, such as hardwood or vinyl, surface preparation is crucial. This may involve sanding, buffing, or priming the subfloor to ensure proper adhesion. If installing on top of existing tiles, filling of grout lines may be required.
Following these steps will ensure the best performance and longevity of your new flooring.
